Yungdrung Choling Palace, located in Langthel Gewog, Trongsa Dzongkhag, is a significant historical and cultural site in Bhutan. Approximately 27 kilometers from Trongsa town on the highway to Zhemgang, the palace was constructed around 1839 by the Trongsa Penlop Ugyen Phuntsho, a descendant of the renowned saint Terton Pema Lingpa (1450-1521) and the Tamzhing Choeje.
The palace remains a private property, owned by the family descending from King Ugyen Wangchuck’s daughter, continuing the Pema Lingpa lineage. Annually, a Tshechu (religious festival) is celebrated in the eleventh month of the Lunar Calendar. Initially, lay practitioners performed the Tshechu, but with the establishment of a monastic institution, it is now a collaborative effort between monks and laypeople.
The Tshechu features religious dances from Lunar calendar month 11, Date 15-17, (3 days) that, while similar to those performed across Bhutan, are believed to uniquely preserve the tradition of Pema Lingpa dances.More details are here on Bhutan Cultural Atlas
